Podcast como ferramenta inovadora na comunicação em saúde: Relato de experiência
Abstract
Introduction: In contemporary times, the use of digital media in higher education has intensified, particularly in health-related courses, as a means to enhance students' knowledge construction. Among the available technologies, the audiovisual tool of podcasts has gained prominence, especially following the social isolation measures implemented from 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which prompted the search for alternative ways to disseminate information across different contexts. A podcast typically involves audiovisual recordings on specific themes, with an average duration of 30 to 40 minutes. In health education, including nursing, podcasts serve as an additional resource in the teaching-learning process and in knowledge dissemination. Objective: To report the experience of nursing students involved in a Communication activity of the Academic League in Health Promotion (LAPS), focusing on the development of a podcast. Methodology: This study presents an experiential report by undergraduate nursing and physiotherapy students from Centro Universitário Vale do Salgado, located in Icó, Ceará. The activity was conducted within the framework of the Academic League in Health Promotion (LAPS) using an audiovisual podcast format, starting in the 2023.2 semester, with the first recording taking place in the latter half of August 2023. Results and discussions: The activity featured a guest speaker from the university’s faculty to discuss the topic "Combatting Cholesterol." The guest's participation was scheduled in advance, considering availability of both the guest and the league members. During the recording, the speaker emphasized the importance of healthy eating habits, lifestyle changes, and regular physical exercise to improve cardiovascular health. The discussion underscored the significance of seeking professional healthcare advice and following guidelines for promoting good health practices and education. It provided a conducive environment for dialogue and clarification on pertinent health-related topics that directly impact health maintenance. Guiding questions facilitated a comprehensive and engaging conversation on various related themes. Additionally, podcasts emerge as an accessible tool for both students and the broader community, offering benefits such as quick access and on-demand availability, which aids in retention of discussed topics and fosters ongoing discussion among participants directly involved and indirectly reached through easy accessibility. Conclusion: Therefore, podcasts prove to be an extremely useful technology in academic communication, offering a dynamic way of learning that facilitates the exchange of information, thereby enhancing shared knowledge construction among students and faculty. The Academic League in Health Promotion is committed to engaging its members in innovative experiences, as demonstrated in the activity described in this study. The potential of this approach is recognized, and further development of similar initiatives promises excellent outcomes for all involved stakeholders.
