O Discurso Psicopatologizante e Medicamentoso Presente nos Espaços de Saúde Mental
Abstract
The present work addresses the prevalence of the medication approach to the detriment of psychotherapy in the treatment of psychopathologies. The influence of the biomedical model stands out, which seeks to eliminate symptoms without exploring the causes of psychological suffering, contributing to the stigmatization of "different" people as sick and promoting a search for "normal". Bibliographical research was used, revealing the emphasis on medicalization to the detriment of a more holistic approach. The results highlight the need to rethink excessive medicalization, recognizing the importance of other interventions, such as psychotherapy, for a more complete and humanized approach to mental health. In conclusion, it is considered that excessive medicalization and pathologization result in dehumanization and excessive consumption of medicines, perpetuating a limited view of health that requires overcoming.
